A Birthday to Remember

Thanks for the birthday wishes guys! I had a wonderful day! We started out my birthday with a sweet surprise- our tour guide and our bus driver (after consulting Mom) got me a book on Irish history for my birthday!

This is our tour guide, Alacoque. She’s awesome!

Our first stop of the day was Rathburn Farm. We got to see demonstrations of sheepherding, sheep shearing, and general life on a Irish sheep farm.

I also got to feed a baby lamb! So cute!

We also went inside the old farmhouse, where we were served VERY tasty scones with tea and coffee, followed with a chance to tour the house.

On our way to our next locations, we drove through a very weird geological area known as the Burrens.

According to my research (aka WikipediaJ) this odd landscape is made up of fractured limestone plates. Very cool! We also drove through a town prepping for its primary event of the year- it’s matchmaking festival, which gave us all a laugh!
We finally arrived at our destination- the Cliffs of Moher. It was absolutely spectacular-  the weather was perfect, bids and flowers were everywhere, and the cliffs themselves were amazing!!!!

After having lunch while overlooking the cliffs, we packed up in order to reach the ferry over the Shannon River in time to reach our home base for the next few days, Killarney. Happily, we made it, and arrived, checked into our hotel, and got ready for that night’s dinner at a pub with local Irish musicians and dancers.
Mom had a surprise in store- she had them make a birthday cake (chocolate of course) for me, and had everyone in the pub sing happy birthday! It was a total surprise, and made the day even more special for me!

All in all, it was an awesome 22nd birthday, and one I’ll never forget!

  1. What a fun bday! Now you need to go back for the matchmaking festival to find yourself an Irish man! ;)
